“Kick start your summer with the World famous Bootleg Beatles performing this at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury. The best Beatles tribute band ever known will be performing a two hour concert of all the classic Beatles hits, with The Fore supporting.”

“On Saturday 24th May 2008 bank holiday weekend, the legendary Bootleg Beatles will be playing a one off concert at the Agricultural Showground in Shrewsbury.

Now, there are still limited tickets available and can be bought via the link on their website or direct from Freshbox Events
In the UK (or if you’re plannin’ to visit) call the ticket hotline on 01743 451 164

And don’t forget the next day is The Liverpool IPO! (International Pop Overthrow Festival, Liverpool - Sunday 25 May 2008)
The lads off to Liverpool again to take part in the IPO Festival, which they thoroughly enjoyed last year.

This time they’re playing in The Cavern at 5pm and Lennon’s Bar at 7pm, so come down and see ‘em leg it (in sutthun stateside, “hoof it”) across Mathew Street from venue to venue!
Oh and by the way, you don’t need a ticket for this one……. it’s FREEEEBEEEE TIIIIME!
Now, remember (geez, does Uncle Relic haveta do everything?? lol) … for you UKers, it’s going to be a Bank Holiday Weekend, so ya just gotta get to The Fore Front and make some noize to show yer support! These lads are superstar-bound, so each show ya see is history-in-the-making! RELIC SAYZ SO!!

PART II DEAR SEXY KNICKERS

DYLAN AND KING

Quickly, lemme go over these:

The new Dylan Way in Duluth’s ready for visitors! It’s named, obviously, for the Legend Himself. Bob Dylan is a native of Duluth, and it’s about time the city (heck … the world) honored him, right??

And, concerning Jonathan (”Perv-Pants”) King: It’s unanimous: Everyone’s thinkin’ he’s made a fool outta himself by glamorizing (or attempting to) the “molestation” thing he did. Man, this is a “no-brainer”; King is really stoopin’ low (come to think of it, what pervert doesn’t?) with that available-on-his-site-only (wonder why?) “Vile Pervert: the Musical”.
The Relic DESPISES molestation, abuse, control and other rot like that! So if I got a little hot under the collar there, I ain’t apologizin’!!

Well, time’s up for this round (nope … still workin’ on it! Should be up this weekend. Until then, I’m visitin’ the uni more than I’ve done since I was a student!), so, until next ish, remember:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.

The Big Crash of ‘08

Well, it happened …

for whatever reason, my PC “blue-screened” itself a coupla nights ago and, though I was able to bring it back, the modem (it and the drivers) was discombobulated!
Natch, I spent a full 24 tryin’ to get it back (huh?? Have ya tried calling Microsoft® lately? After pressing “this” or “that” number, ya still wait forever … and can somebody tell me how a dude in New Delhi knows about my computer?), sooooo … here I am, on an old PC, makin’ sure I get this post done (how old is it?? Dunno … but it’s got a kerosene reservoir and comes with a candle holder!).

Anyway, the “normal” PC (hmph … as if anything’s mornal in Relicworld!) should be up and running at full speed within a coupla days, and we’ll be gettin’ back to our regular posts! So stay tuned …

ROCK UPDATES

Still got time for these rascals, though (thank God for libraries! I woulda done it on that old set, but I’m still waiting for my download from 1967 to complete):

JONATHAN KING, known not only for the ’60s hits Everyone’s Gone To The Moon and (It’s) Good News Week, has decided to tell his side of the 2001 conviction for molesting underaged boys. And he’s doing it (can you believe this?) by creating a 96-minute film musical. And (Wait … it gets better! Watch …) plays most of the roles in “Vile Pervert: The Musical”. While you’re laughing, lemme finish this part off by sayin’ he was released from prison in 2005.

And, ’cause Sir Macca so nicely promoted the new hybrid Lexus during his ‘05 tour (evidently, we’ve been set back three years in this “updates” section for some reason), they gave him a LS600h worth a cool 158G (that’s $158 THOUSAND!!) But (get this, pt. II) the company flew the car by cargo jet to Britain, creating the same carbon emissions as if they had driven the car 300 times around the world. (but, gee … how ya gonna do dat? Won’t it, like, sink somewhere in the ocean? Picky, picky, picky!)

MORE GREAT 411 ON THE FORE NEXT ISH!! SO STAY TUNED! Until then, though …

A lotta RelicMail on the recent AYBS? vids. They like ‘em, but wanna know why they’re now shown in RelicWorld! Well, remember, back-in-the-day, when we clashed (often in fun) with the older generation — one that wasn’t too keen on seeing this younger, more modern set makin’ waves? That’s what AYBS? does, if ya study it a bit.

Here … see what I mean in Pt I of Dear Sexy Knickers (don’t worry … it’s still rated PG!!).

More coming in the next ish! But, for now, time’s almost up at Stall 14 of the Uni Library here, so, until next time (whether here or with the new modem installed on the other one):

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.

AYBS?, Fore, Updates and More!

Now, why am I not surprised by this?

Zak Starkey — son of another famous drummer, and formerly stick-man for the group Oasis – has reportedly left the band. According to Relicsources, he had problems getting along with (gee … lemme guess) Liam and Noel Gallagher (this was their third drummer in thirteen years! Geez …)

PART 3 OF THE HERO

Now, here’s where comedy and wrestling go hand-in-hand, as Capt. Peacock finally finds a way to get revenge … or does he??

FOR YOUR FOREHEAD … (FORE News)

It’s official: The lads are headin’ into the studio to work on their new CD on May 17 — and, believe me, this one oughtta put ‘em over the top!

But, before then, they’ve got the Zoothousand Festival Showcase tonight at the Tip & Tin. So, if you’re in the Kent/London area, be there!! You’ll won’t wanna miss it!

YOUNG SPIDER

Nope, it’s not the name of a band … but of an actual, bonafide trapdoor spider. An East Carolina University biologist discovered the new species last year in 2007 and gave it a scientific name. Here it is; you figure out who it’s named after: Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. Right: Folkrocker Neil Young. (Huh? No, I don’t know why. Maybe he’s a fan or something!)

Well, that’s it for this edition. Until tomorrow, when there’ll be more rock updates, Fore and vids, remember:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side!

While The PC’s Repairing …

OUCH!! It happens sometimes, though:

For whatever reason, the modem on my PC’s gone (I think I know the problem, though: Y’see, my cats love to play with my little Compaq mouse [naturally. And, yes, I am still talkin’ about the computer …], and probably became so worked up that they took out the modemnaaaah … I don’t buy it either! Okay … it was my fault somehow. SATISFIED!?? lol )
Anyway, I stopped by the library while the new modem’s bein’ added ’cause I promised the next installment of AYBS.

But, before I do, a “heads-up” for all Rockaholics in the UK: Prepare to getcher Daily Mail early on Sunday morning! Reason: Macca’s hit CD, Memory Almost Full, is included as a freebie inside it!
(Man, you cats have allll the fun, don’tcha?? Geez …)

Now … on with the show:

Now … until I get back and check out the damag … er, work … the shop’s done (even if it’s not finished, I will be back later this evening!), remember:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side!

The Everlys, The Fore, and Ol’ Blue Eyes

Hey … remember when Scorsese scored with the Stones’ documentary,Shine A Light, a few months back? Well, he’s at it again — only, this time, he’s gonna do Sinatra’s life!
Yep … the “Chairman of the Board” is gonna be the subject of a new doc that, according to Frank’s daughter, Tina, will show the man was “innocent of any true involvement with the Mafia or other gangsters”.
Though no production date has been announced (in fact, this wasn’t even supposedta be leaked!), it fits into a “three-fer” for the director; he’s also planning on a biodoc on George Harrison.

THE GUYS WITH FORESIGHT (and a “by-request” vid)

BeFore we get to the video, lemme introduce ya to the dynamic duo behind-the-scenes with the band! The hard-working, fan-friendly Fore-fronters (p.s. Don’t try to say that with a mouth full of tea! It just doesn’t work! Ask my cats …), Neil White and David Jordan, have kept the mechanics of the band running smoothly — and they deserve a shout-out, and thanks, from every Forehead present (and future!). Gents, you’re nothin’ less than awesome!
Now … by your request:

THE FORE: I WANT TO BE WITH YOU

THE EVERLY BROTHERS vs. GERRY and the PACEMAKERS

Now, this is interesting! A cool “switch-off” of sorts:

WRESTLIN’ WITH MR. TV (PT. I)

My favorite shows from Britain have been A Bit Of Fry and Laurie and Are You Being Served? In this, Part I of three that I’ll include among the next posts, Captain Peacock has a … er, well, little “problem” that’ll eventually lead to a wrestling match (stay tuned for the continuing saga for details. Thought I’d throw this in since The Relic did shots with wrestling orgs recently):

Okay … now, while you’re watchin’ those, I’m gonna sneak off for a few zzzz’s, so … until tomorrow:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music …and I’ll see ya on the flip side.

The Fore LIVE at the G2 (and MORE!)

Okay, Foreheads, here’s the vid you’ve been askin’ me for … direct from the G2 show …
THE FORE performing “YOU’LL BE MINE”:

Now … you’ve heard the lads — and seen their vids — now meet them yourself as well as learn the history of the band (at least, to this point! The best, as they say, is yet to come!) This Adobe PDF® download will also give you other goodies: what the press has to say about ‘em, as well as parts of recent Rolling Stone™ and USA TODAY® articles about the renewed interest in 60’s BritRock!

THE EVERLY BROTHERS — THAT’LL BE THE DAY

Man, talk about an oldies rush: Hearin’ the Relic’s fave duo, Don and Phil, doin’ the Buddy Holly classic, That’ll Be The Day! (incidentally, Didja Know that Phil Everly was one of the pallbearers at Buddy’s funeral?)
Anyway, here’s the classic in all its glory:

IT HAPPENED ON MAY 9 (1970)

The song that insulted a lot of stateside gals, the Guess Who’s American Woman, was born. Here’s what happened:

After he’d broken a string, Guess Who guitarist Randy Bachman started playin’ a heavy rhythm riff on stage and the band (who’d taken a break) began jamming with him on it. Singer Burton Cummings then started singing whatever came to mind.

Well, a fan taped it all and gave it to the band after the show. They listened, and built the rest of the song around it (natch, it was a biiiiig hit … even among those ever-lovin’, easy-forgivin’ American Women!)

And, with that, we’re gonna take a break for the nightly snooze … but I’ll be back with more in less than 24! So, until then …

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side!

Cliff Richard, $ir Elton, and A New Name …

Ahhh, Sir Cliff … has it really been that long ago??

Y’see, a special plaque was unveiled Saturday in Rigley’s Regal nightclub in Derbyshire, England on the 50th anniversary of his first performance using the name of Cliff Richard (his started out as Harry Webb, an office clerk born in Luchnow, India) in 1958. It was the owner of the club who gave him is famous stage name. “The Regal played a huge part in my personal music history,” he said in a letter to the celebrating crowd, “and I am thrilled that this is being marked by a plaque to mark my 50th anniversary, 50 years to the day since that first performance”.

Oh … speaking of Sir Cliff: Didja know he only got second place in the famous Eurovision Song Competition forty years ago? Y’see, Spain’s dictator-at-the-time, Francisco Franco, fixed the voting by ordering Spanish TV execs to book unknown acts in exchange for votes. So Cliff’s Congratulations lost by just one point to Spanish singer Massiel’s La La La.
I know … I hadn’t heard of Massiel either before now …

TO SIR, WITH CASH …

Look … I know Sir Elton John’s a fabulous performer and has written (mostly with Bernie Taupin) some serious rock classics over the years, but are his shows really worth … over a half million dollar$?? Seems that’s what Sir Alan Sugar (okay, BritFans … who is he?) paid the Brown Dirt Cowboy (or was he Captain Fantastic? My faves were Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting and Texas Love Song) to entertain guests at his 40th wedding anniversary party on Monday night at his Essex estate (I mean, Sir Sugar’s wedding, not Elton’s. Ummm … lotsa jokes, but let’s not go there now, okay??). But he also hired Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to sing (he said it’s his favorite band from the ’60s. Dunno what they were paid … probably just a smidgen less, y’reckon?).
Oh … ahem! … sorry for the pic. I think I caught him gettin’ ready to sneeze.
(Huh?? Texas Love Song? Oh … it’s about rednecks gittin’ a mite riled ’cause’a dem heppeez takin’ are wimmin an’ messin’ with are young’uns hay-udz back ‘ennn! Actually, just Google® the lyrics, and you’ll see …)

IN THE FORE-FRONT … for FOREHEADS!!

Okay, the ballots are in (yeah … like there were any. Actually, response via RelicMail), and the new name you’ve agreed on for Fore fans is (drum roll, please! waitaminnit … make that a crescent roll, with butter. I’m hungry alluvasudden …)FOREHEADS!
Taken after the followers of San Francisco’s Grateful Dead (otherwise known as Deadheads), the followers of THE FORE are alive … kickin’ … unstoned, unscattered and undeniably the best and most faithful fans of any act I’ve seen in over forty years!

The lads just completed a coupla gigs, including one on Sunday at The Cavern (where it was hot … literally!), followed by a great outdoor show the next day at Southwest London’s Street Festival in Kingston (where they debuted two new songs from their next album, Tell Your Friend and Send My Love To You) . More FORE gigs are on their way, so stay tuned to this site (or, better yet, go to theirs) for more info!! (Now, while you’re at their site, be sure to order their Black & White CD through PayPal®!)

Now … while you’re doin’ that, I’m gonna close up this session and get ready to inspect the inside of my eyelids for … oh, about five or six 60s. So, until tomorrow, remember:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.

Paul, Ringo and … Foreheads??

Maybe … just maybe
Y’see, word’s out that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (remember them?) are considerin’ re-teaming for recording and/or concerts! Both of these superstars have had enormous successes since the Beatles split, and their tentative reunion will undoubtedly be the most anticipated since the Zep show at O2 last year.
(Incidentally, the latest word from Jimmy Page is that LZ won’t be reuniting for further concerts after all. DIE-ummm!)

ABOUT BUCK, A DUCK AND BAD LUCK …

I guess the Buck stops here: Buck Owens’ famous Bakersfield recording studio, where Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard also recorded, was shut down about a week ago. But new plans include either opening another studio theater on the spot or simply turning the building into a museum. (Hey … rock or not, ya oughtta preserve the places where musical masterpieces were made, right?)

And The Relic’s hearin’ a lotta ducktalk lately on the FM! At first, I thought they finally released Donald after his big quack-up (first symptom: suffering intense Disney spells, followed by acting Goofy and Scrooge-ing up even Plutonic relationships by an uncontrollable Minnie Mouth). But it was only funnyman/DJ Rick Dees’ Disco Duck. Seems the winged web-waddle of weird is makin’ a comeback on the morning shows around larger markets …

Martha Reeves. The name itself evokes memories of Dancing In The Streets (this, I guess, before heavy traffic and high gas prices and cell phones, was safe …). But, on Sunday night, the head Vandella, now a respected Detroit councilwoman (now, why do they use that adjective? As if she wasn’t respected before??) had a bit of bad luck: thieves apparently kicked in the back door of her childhood home and stole almost a million bucks’ worth of speakers, mics, recording equipment — even karaoke machines! Though her dad owns the home, neither he nor she had insurance to cover the loss.

IN THE FORE-FRONT Got an interesting bit of RelicMail from a fan in California who suggested that, (now, get this!) since The Grateful Dead came from San Francisco and their fans are called “Deadheads” (as I was in high school … and I hadn’t even heard of the band!), then why not call Spencer, Simon, Luke and Matt’s fans Foreheads?
Hmmm … isn’t that where pain sometimes starts? Unless yer married or pay taxes, in which case it starts in the but wait a minnit: It’s … it’s also where thoughts emanate, right? And … and it’s also the first part of your face that’s noticed, correct? (okay, except mine. The gleam of the sun off this balding head of mine usually blinds people from lookin’ at me … and they’re often thankful for some reason)
Anyway …
the lads seem to like the moniker, so why not run with it?? (Gotta be careful, though, about “scratchin’ yer Forehead”, unless she allows ya to! And never, never, “slap yer Forehead!”)

WHO SAID THIS? If you remember, at the end of the Quiz-Time Answers a coupla-three posts back, I gave two quotes to ya and asked who said ‘em? Here’s a review:

‘The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn’t the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility.’

‘You can’t cheat kids. If you cheat them when they’re children they’ll make you pay when they’re sixteen or seventeen by revolting against you or hating you or all those so-called teenage problems. I think that’s finally when they’re old enough to stand up to you and say, ‘What a hypocrite you’ve been all this time. You’ve never given me what I really wanted, which is you.’”

Who else would have more insight into the era … and what made kids tick … than John Lennon? He wasn’t just a performer or songwriter — the man was the consummate thinker!

Well, that’s it for this episode. Tune in tomorrow (or, later today, depending where ya live!) for more! Until then:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.

Two of Fore 4 Yer IPOD

LOVE FOR SALE from the album Black & White. While the lads are great (as always), the bow-wows are worth their weight in gold kibble:

IT’LL BE ME from the album Black & White, performed live!.

IN THE FORE-FRONT As I write this, the lads are gearin’ up for a loaded month of gigs as their popularity continues to increase! From all corners of the globe, people are rockin’, rollin’ and ravin’ about Spencer, Simon, Matt and Luke! Keep watchin’ this site and their own as they climb that ladder to superstardom!

START YER MONDAY WITH ALL KINDS OF MUSIC!
(today, other great shows are all over b5!!)

Y’see, b5media's Music Channel offers 38 tracks to get you through your Monday — or any day!

Now, you’ve got quite a selection here. E’en though ye faithful Rockaholiques art digging thy coveted repast each morn as the sun riseth (hmph … see why I flunked Shakespeare?), the b5 network (proud parent to this bundle of caterwaulin’ good vibrations) has some dynamite music of all types:

For example, you can dig some top-quality jazz:  The Jazz and Blues Lounge is where you can feel it.  Keeping with the jazz era The Good Musician gives ya two of the greatest legends of all time.  Finish your third (or fourth … or fifth …) cup of coffee (or Earl Grey) and bring it upbeat a bit with either brand and check out some new Nelly w Fergie at Pop Music Scene or download two free metal tracks at Metal Martyr

From the world of 4 global music meccas: Move yer ears halfway around terra firma for two must-have Aussie tracks at Oz Music Scene.  Heading back into the states again, Big Apple Music Scene gives ya two tracks that should be on every iPod.  Now … goin’ down South to one of America's strongest indie cultures with Austin Sound Check gives ya two tracks that you oughtta hear.  And ya know Toronto has a big, bustling and exciting music scene and Toronto Unplugged provides proof with two solid tunes.

A fab online music resource, Our Digital Music  gives ya two great tracks to download.  And, natch, anything with Dylan is good, but Rock Dose has the best of the legendary troubador.  Christian Music Fan outlines two tracks within the Christian genre.  Ear Sucker  always features a wide variety of quality music; these tracks’ll show ya what I mean.

After a bit, get ready to mellow as ya sip yer martini and dig some good, old-fashioned crooning with these two gems from Crooner Culture.  No day is complete without some top notch classic rock - head to
the Rock Relic  for your rock fix with two vids from the exciting new British sensations, The Fore! (wait … yer already here! Ummm … okay, so much for the promo they sent me! lol Gladja made it, though!).  After those rockin’ vids, float over to New Age Vibe for two eclectic faves with a refreshingly unique touch!  From there, head to Industrial Addiction for great cuts from that growing genre.   She Plays Music always has the inside track of women in music — and you’ll hear two solid examples of that on their site!  And, yes, Punk Rock is still alive … and doin’ well!  News in Punk  features two cool punk tracks.  Add a little Hippie to your day (hey … I did that once, but she left me an hour later; I was allergic to the flowers in her hair). These diamonds will do it at Hippie Sounds (by the way, is it just coincidence that DSL is the opposite of … LSD? The way this PC acts up, maybe not??)

Anyway, while ya check those out (and ponder that last question, ye-who-are-now-about-to-switch-to-cable-outta-fear), I’m gonna break open this case of zzzzz’s and get some serious, long-needed snooze! Enjoy the shows on those links, and remember (as, tomorrow, we return to normalHAAA-HAAAA!Sure …):

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music …
and I’ll see ya on the flip side.

Diamond to Shine (and More …)

Okay, I’ll admit it: Despite my deep rock roots, I can never get enough of the stylistic smoothness of Neil Diamond! I mean, from his days as a Brill Building songwriter to his superstardom as America’s most prolific troubador, the man has won the hearts and musical souls of millions.

We’ve grooved to the belting rock of Cherry, Cherry, heard every lonely person’s cry in I Am … I Said, witnessed the creation of the world in the African trilogy Soolaimon, got that “tent-revival” religion in Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show … and so much more (and, hey — I didn’t even include the duets!).

And, now, he’s scheduled to kick off a 37-city North American tour (meaning: “heads-up,” Canadian Rockaholics!) on July 19th in St. Paul, Minnesota! (and this, after a hefty European tour! For BritFans, he’ll be playin’ the O2 and Wembley arenas!) For ticket info, check out his site … and don’t miss the chance to see this superstar on this tour of a lifetime! It’s in conjunction with the release of his upcoming CD, Home Before Dark.

NOW … IN OTHER NEWS:

Sylvester Stewart (aka “Sly Stone”) cancelled a Chi-Town appearance (it was supposed to have been on Saturday). He said it was for, ummmm, “health reasons.” No plans to re-sched, either …

The Guess Who’s Carl Dixon, who took over lead vocals after Burton Cummings left, was involved in a head-on auto crash a coupla weeks ago in Melbourne, Australia. He was trapped in the wreckage for two hours and placed in an induced coma, but his condition’s improved. Still, he’s hospitalized with two broken legs, a broken right hand and a badly injured eye that, according to docs, he’ll probably lose. Dude, the Rockaholics are all pullin’ for ya!

A lotta rock talk goin’ on about Elvis and a supposed “visit” he made to England. According to sources, he took a leave while in the Army (stationed in Germany) to meet and be shown around London by Tommy Steele.
But, now, two of the infamous Memphis Mafia said they were with Elvis at the time, and he was confined to base in Germany! In other words (according to them), it never happened! More on this little fraca as it develops …

RON RYAN and THINKIN’ ABOUT YOU

Y’know, if anybody deserves a spot in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame for his songwriting and musical history, it’d haveta be the man who, for all intents and purposes, put the Dave Clark Five on the musical map! (If you just joined us, check out Ron’s site at Ron Ryan Music for the shocking, true story.)
But his writing talent didn’t end there! Ron’s still writing some spectacular numbers, such as this one:

Thinkin’ About You

NOTE: This song is © 2008 RHM Music. Used by permission of the publisher. Any reproduction is expressly prohibited without prior consent from RHM Music, 9841 Mission Vega Rd. Unit 1, Santee, CA 92071

COMING UP: THE FORE AND MORE! But, for now (and since The Relic’s a bit down with a stomach bug), I’m gonna turn it in for about six hours. So, until this time tomorrow, remember:

Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side>
