Behind The Doors (and more …)
Awright … maybe you can make some sense outta this, ’cause it gets … well, a bit confusing:
Y’see, former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek has filed a suit against an insurance company because they wouldn’t give him coverage for losses when their drummer (John Densmore) sued him to stop him and guitarist Robbie Krieger from touring as the Doors 21st Century. The suit was originally thrown outta court in 2006. (Hmph … probably ’cause the judge was just as confused as everyone else over this nonsense!)
Actually, these guys have gotta remember that, though The Doors was the band’s name, to thousands of fans it was “Jim Morrison and his band.” Man, don’t insult the Lizard King’s memory. Find a new name, huh??
Got a piece of RelicMail from Susan in Pittsburgh, who wanted to know if Penny Lane is real (it’s her fave Beatles song, she says) and how it got its name. Well, yes, it is a real street in Liverpool … and it’s named after James Penny, an 18th Century slave trader!
DIDJA KNOW THAT there were actually two versions of the song? While statesiders heard a clean ending, the UK version had a trumpet ending the song by playing a few notes of the bridge.
DO YA KNOW WHY you’ll find The Byrds’ hits including All I Really Want To Do, but don’t hear it on most “oldies” stations? It’s because, back-in-the-day, both they and Sonny & Cher released versions of the song at the same time! Since both were hitmakers, stations had to decide which one to promote, and chose the husband-wife team’s. But, to “play fair” with Byrds fans, they flipped their 45 over and played side “B”, Feel A Whole Lot Better (When You’re Gone).
IN THE FORE-FRONT: The lads of The Fore are gonna be gettin’ some national airtime here in the States soon, thanks in part to the HotSpot Radio Network! And I’ve just been informed by their manager that they’ve had to order more pressings of their hit CD, Black & White, due to popular demand over in the UK!
Now, you can check out their rockin’ videos on YouTube (just type “The Fore” in the search box) or go to their music site to hear selections from the CD and dig some of their vids! Listen … my highest Relicommendation is: Buy their CD and join the Fore fan club! The mates are on their way to the top, and, when that happens, you’ll have a piece of history in your hands!
DIDJA KNOW THAT the original drummer of The Fore is the son of one of The Searchers?
NEW UPDATE ON PETE DINTINO, as well as MUSIC FROM RON RYAN, COMING SOON! But, until then, I’m gonna finish my coffee, then open the latest shipment of zzzz’s and hit the sack for about four. So, until tomorrow, remember:
Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music (and Pete) … and I’ll see ya on the flip side!
