Dylan In Court (and more …)

Who sez this music of ours doesn’t have impact??
I mean, even the Supreme Cat used a famous line from …
(ummm, wait. That’s supposed to read “Supreme Court”! Uh — heh-heh! — s-sorry …) from one of Dylan’s (come to think about it, I’d rather deal with Garfield!) biggest hits to drive home a […]

Smokey, Everlys, BIG NEWS, Possum and more …

Well, it’s been a long time comin’, and more than deserved, but Miracleman Smokey Robinson has finally been inducted into Harlem’s Apollo Theatre Hall of Fame (this happened on Monday night). He and wife Francesca were welcomed to the legendary Theatre by Janet Jackson, Spike Lee and other celebs. Smokey, you shoulda […]

Hard Rock, AYBS? and … Gorilla Snot?!?

Okay … I know that last part of the title might’ve thrown ya, but lemme ’splain:
Y’see, a few times over the past years, I’ve sat in as drummer for a local band … and, as anyone who’s ever thumped the skins can tell ya, those sticks can fly outta yer hands every once-in-awhile! But […]

Paul, Ringo and … Foreheads??

Maybe … just maybe …
Y’see, word’s out that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (remember them?) are considerin’ re-teaming for recording and/or concerts! On Girl Groups and more …

Yep … this Gene Pitney-written classic is a staple in just about every female rocker’s musical diet. The greatest (only?) hit by The Crystals.
Nope. Got the wrong girl group there — no matter what the record label or DJ says!
Y’see, back in ‘62, Phil Spector had The Crystals on his roster, but was […]

RESPECT? Searchers … and more FORE!

Okay … there’s no doubting that the Queen of Soul deserves the title; but her shenanigans at the recent Grammy Awards (where she dissed Beyonce for callin’ Tina Turner the “Queen”. Actually, the lady who said it and introed Tina’s set was Cher. At least that’s what the TV audience heard …), along […]

Wrists, Twists and Insights

Okay, this one’s for the Byrds:  Roger McGuinn,  lead singer for the mid-Sixties supergroup,  broke his wrist Monday, slipping on ice in Chicago. The slip forced him to cancel a lecture and a coupla concerts at Weber State University in Utah. His arm will be in a cast until mid-January.
I gotta say that Roger’s one of the most accessible and […]
