Flicks, Hot Licks and a Nix
There are gonna be a lot of hot licks comin’ up in just a few hours as Spencer, Matt, Si and Luke take the stage along with The Bootleg Beatles at a “rrrrrrrrrrreally big shew” at the West Mids Showground in Shrewsbury Shropshire this evening! They’re expectin’ … awww, I reckon close to around 3,000 fans to show up and rock like never before!
C’mon … it’s an event you don’t wanna miss! The Fore has (have?) been workin’ the gig circuit like mad over the past month, and it’s really startin’ to heat up. I mean, to play on the same bill as the world-famous Bootleg Beatles (some call them the first “tribute” band … and the first rock band to play the [then] Soviet Union!) is a BIG step up for the lads!! So gear up, grab yer mate and get out there for a night you’ll definitely remember!
The lads are just micro-inches away from superstardom … and every time ya see ‘em in action now is really “history-in-the-making”. So — in my dear departed daddy’s words: “GIT!!” ‘Sides, Relic sayz so! You’ll have a total ball at this fab show!!
OKAY … SO WHAT ABOUT THE “FLICK” YA MENTIONED??
Well, the Relic’s fave folksters, The Brothers Four (who not only did Greenfields but also the funky Eddystone Light and highly-harmonic My Tani), had a bass player who was one of the nicest dudes to ever stand up behind a stand-up. His name? Bob Flick.
Ring a bell?? No?? Well, he’s the one who just married TV’s luscious Loni Anderson! Seems they met when she was chosen the “lucky winner” of a contest to meet The Four (Brothers, I mean … er, The Brothers Four) as a teenager. Over the years, they never forgot each other … and The Relic wishes them a good, lonnnnnnng and happy life.
AND THE “NIX”?
Though they haven’t done well on the basketball cou … (oh, wait [heh-heh!] That’s the “Knicks”. Sorry …) Actually …
David Bowie supposedly had supposedly okayed his songs to be used in a musical production of “The Man Who Fell To Earth”, but the whole thing turned out to be bogus. Bowie’s said he’s never heard of the so-called director of the “musical”, and his publisher says that nobody’s even asked about licensing. Sounds like somebody’s tryin’ to scam the Spaceman.
(Oh … didja know that David got his last name from the famous knife? Yep … y’see, if he’d used his given last name, he thought he’d be confused with another “David Jones” [uh-huh … Monkees], so he changed it!)
THE EVERLYS AND THE CRICKETS
Here’s a vid that you’ll dig, whether you’re an EB or Buddy Holly fan! From the old Alma Cogan Show from yearsandyears ago, here are Don and Phil performing with Buddy’s group, The Crickets!
Well, that’s it for now, Rockaholics … but stay tuned; in less than 24, I’ll be back with more 411 from Classy Classic Rock 101. ‘Til then, remember:
Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.
