Paul, Ringo and … Foreheads??
Maybe … just maybe …
Y’see, word’s out that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (remember them?) are considerin’ re-teaming for recording and/or concerts! Both of these superstars have had enormous successes since the Beatles split, and their tentative reunion will undoubtedly be the most anticipated since the Zep show at O2 last year.
(Incidentally, the latest word from Jimmy Page is that LZ won’t be reuniting for further concerts after all. DIE-ummm!)
ABOUT BUCK, A DUCK AND BAD LUCK …
I guess the Buck stops here: Buck Owens’ famous Bakersfield recording studio, where Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard also recorded, was shut down about a week ago. But new plans include either opening another studio theater on the spot or simply turning the building into a museum. (Hey … rock or not, ya oughtta preserve the places where musical masterpieces were made, right?)
And The Relic’s hearin’ a lotta ducktalk lately on the FM! At first, I thought they finally released Donald after his big quack-up (first symptom: suffering intense Disney spells, followed by acting Goofy and Scrooge-ing up even Plutonic relationships by an uncontrollable Minnie Mouth). But it was only funnyman/DJ Rick Dees’ Disco Duck. Seems the winged web-waddle of weird is makin’ a comeback on the morning shows around larger markets …
Martha Reeves. The name itself evokes memories of Dancing In The Streets (this, I guess, before heavy traffic and high gas prices and cell phones, was safe …). But, on Sunday night, the head Vandella, now a respected Detroit councilwoman (now, why do they use that adjective? As if she wasn’t respected before??) had a bit of bad luck: thieves apparently kicked in the back door of her childhood home and stole almost a million bucks’ worth of speakers, mics, recording equipment — even karaoke machines! Though her dad owns the home, neither he nor she had insurance to cover the loss.
IN THE FORE-FRONT Got an interesting bit of RelicMail from a fan in California who suggested that, (now, get this!) since The Grateful Dead came from San Francisco and their fans are called “Deadheads” (as I was in high school … and I hadn’t even heard of the band!), then why not call Spencer, Simon, Luke and Matt’s fans Foreheads?
Hmmm … isn’t that where pain sometimes starts? Unless yer married or pay taxes, in which case it starts in the but wait a minnit: It’s … it’s also where thoughts emanate, right? And … and it’s also the first part of your face that’s noticed, correct? (okay, except mine. The gleam of the sun off this balding head of mine usually blinds people from lookin’ at me … and they’re often thankful for some reason)
Anyway …
the lads seem to like the moniker, so why not run with it?? (Gotta be careful, though, about “scratchin’ yer Forehead”, unless she allows ya to! And never, never, “slap yer Forehead!”)
WHO SAID THIS? If you remember, at the end of the Quiz-Time Answers a coupla-three posts back, I gave two quotes to ya and asked who said ‘em? Here’s a review:
‘The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn’t the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility.’
‘You can’t cheat kids. If you cheat them when they’re children they’ll make you pay when they’re sixteen or seventeen by revolting against you or hating you or all those so-called teenage problems. I think that’s finally when they’re old enough to stand up to you and say, ‘What a hypocrite you’ve been all this time. You’ve never given me what I really wanted, which is you.’”
Who else would have more insight into the era … and what made kids tick … than John Lennon? He wasn’t just a performer or songwriter — the man was the consummate thinker!
Well, that’s it for this episode. Tune in tomorrow (or, later today, depending where ya live!) for more! Until then:
Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.
