RESPECT? Searchers … and more FORE!
Okay … there’s no doubting that the Queen of Soul deserves the title; but her shenanigans at the recent Grammy Awards (where she dissed Beyonce for callin’ Tina Turner the “Queen”. Actually, the lady who said it and introed Tina’s set was Cher. At least that’s what the TV audience heard …), along with her fur wrap, which set PETA off (mama, there’s a nekkid mink runnin’ around in the woods!), her place nearly put up for grabs ’cause she owes over 19 grand in taxes and fees yet celebrated her 66th b’day at the Ritz Hotel in NYC (drivin’ up in a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, no less!), kinda makes us wonder if she’s lost some R-E-S-P-E-C-T and let E-G-O get in the way!
Now, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has agreed to pay Aretha’s back taxes (and save her $700,000 mansion) if she’d just sign a paper promising never to wear animal fur or skins again! Nope … she’s refused …
Hey … the Relic got a real rush this afternoon when my mates at My-Generation sent a copy of The Searchers doing “Sick and Tired” from Hamburg’s Star Club way-back-when. Seems my ex took my copy of it when she left a few years back, and I’ve been, um, “searchin’” for it ever since! Since mine was on a mono comp LP, this one (digitized and in stereo) sounds a lot better … and brings back acres of memories! Thanks, people!!
ON THE FORE-FRONT
The lads are causing a lot of excitement among thousands of fans in the UK this Spring … and it’s starting to pick up here in America! At the rate these guys are movin’ up, it’s not gonna be long before the entire country’s hit with a solid case of the Fore Fever! Now, they’ve got a full slate of venues in the UK for the month of May:
- The Cavern (Yoko Ono Hospital Charity Evening) (May 4)
- Kingston Festival (May 5)
- Bromley Town Centre (May 10)
- Sutton Town Centre (May 11)
- Croydon Centre (May 18)
- Support for The Bootleg Beatles (May 24)
- Liverpool IPO festival (May 25; The Cavern 5pm, Lennon’s Bar 7pm)
- The Sutton Festival (May 31)
- Smollensky’s bar the evening of May 31!!
Thanks to their Prime Minister of Managers, David Jordan, for the 411. If you’re around any of these areas, ya gotta take in their shows!
Oh … ya want more?? Okay … first, check out their site at theforeband.com. Secondly, look for some brand-new material coming out soon!! Thirdly, they’ve picked up a new compadre in the great Ron Ryan (and, lemme tell ya, if you get my mate Ron’s endorsement, you’ve gotta be great! The man, as you know, is a true legend!)
RON RYAN ROCKS AGAIN!!
Now, while I’m still havin’ some problems uploadin’ music to the site here (I’m workin’ on it … geez!!), I’ve had the privilege of hearing some of Ron’s latest comps. As many of your emails have pointed out (from some of his songs that I had here before the server went into “great-grandmaw” mode) , the man is one of the greatest songwriters of the rock era — then and now (hey … it’s obvious)!
But some of the new ones I’ve heard put him up there with another chap named “McCartney”!! If you wanna know more about Ron Ryan (he of The Riot Squad, The Walkers, Blue Aces, C&W with Nassington Flyer … and writer of the Dave Clark Five’s Because, Any Way You Want It and the original Bits & Pieces), just go to his site at Ron Ryan Music and click on his bio and other links. You’ll soon be a diehard fan (if you’re not already)!
UPDATES ON SUPERSTAR PETE DINTINO WILL RESUME TOMORROW!
Well, that’s it for this early-bird special (oh … it’s only midnight here!); I’ll be back here within the next 24 hours. So, until that time, remember to keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music (and prayers/thoughts with Pete) … and I’ll see ya on the flip side!
