from the RelicWire:
Cher and her daughter, openly-gay Chastity Bono, will host an upcoming TV show they’ll be calling Coming Out With Cher and Chas. In the show, they’ll counsel still-closeted homosexuals.
In Jolly Olde, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, will bestow the MBE (Member of the British Empire) to Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull (guess he’s tired of Living In The Past). If you remember, the MBE was the honor that the Beatles ditched after they were awarded it.
The Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame announced that bluesman Jimmy Reed (”Big Boss Man”, a super hit by Elvis) has been inducted. If you ever had the chance to hear this blues legend (and, if not, download some of his music wherever you can get it), you’ll see why his induction and appreciation is lonnnnnnnng overdue!
A lot of talk about the Presidential race (more specifically, the Dem/Rep noms) on CNN by Rep. John Hall of New York. What’s the big deal about that? John was lead guitarist for the group Orleans (”Dance With Me”, “(You’re) Still the One”) back in the ’70’s.
A new postage stamp in Italy will be honoring the song Volare (for you older relics, you remember it as a megahit by Bobby Rydell. For you international relics, you remember it as Domenico Medugno’s). The subtitle (in America; otherwise, the actual title) is Nel Blu Dipinto De Blu.
Latest word from Brit insiders is that Dave Clark will not be attending to accept the award for the DC5’s induction into the R&R HoF. Others say this is a broadcast ploy to push him into attending. The Relic’ says, “Who CARES?!?” As long as Len and Rick (who actually played in the group, along with Mike and the late Denis) show up. Dave’s long lost his “superstar” status by using it all on his massive ego.
Well, that’s it for this edition. Until next time, it’s 11:30 on the East Coast, 8:30 on the West, and (WOW!) already 2008 in London (hmmmm … wonder what it’s like?) !! So remember: Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side o’ things!
