The Rock Revolution Begins …

by Chuck Hinson on April 11th, 2008

Awww, I know it’s The Clash, but it works into the post …

Y’see, we’re lookin’ at one humongous revolution goin’ on in the world of rock, and it’s one that’s caused by a clash (seeee?) between three different fronts:

First (and according to USA Today, Rolling Stone and others), kids are rising up against the synth-techno stuff they’re hearin’ on FMs, podcasts and CDs.  They’re wantin’ the music that made it all happen in the first place:  The sounds of the British Invasion (well, at least up to Led Zep!).  But here’s the kicker:  They love the old stuff, but they want new songs, new acts … on CD, vids and, especially, live … that have the sound (and attitude).

Now, geez … where oh where can we find that?  I’ll scratch my FOREhead, give it some FOREthought, and get back with ya beFORE this post is done (get the point?).

Secondly, everybody’s lookin’ for some relief from the tremendous social and economic pressures caused by a certain Administration … and, at the same time, feel a sense of optimistic anticipation that, before long, it’ll be gone and better times will come to pass.

And, thirdly (and most importantly), young people are beginning to see that the Sixties sounds had more substance to ‘em!  Not only did the lads and ladies have to work their way up with real instruments (as opposed to computerized “loops”), but they performed on streets, small clubs, private gatherings and such before they made it into the bigtime!  They composed their own material — and were onstage for the love of the music and not the “almighty dollar” that’d bring them “bling” or whatever.  In short, they were real …

Now, the new interest in The Beatles is being fueled by the new Rare & Unseen: The Beatles DVD (ya gotta get it!), in the DC5 by the R&R HoF, in Kinks by the TV commercials (and a possible reunion of the originals) and others.  And, with the introduction of The Fore to more and more fans, people are beginning to dig the raw energy of the music!

Yeah, I said in the last post that the music has sort of a healing power (and that’s true!  More on that in another post shortly) … but, even better (and as has been proved), it has a staying power as well!   I mean, it’s been forty-four years since the Beatles stepped off that plane at JFK; how many of today’s acts are gonna be remembered and played nearly a half-century from now??

IN THE FORE-FRONT:  While the lads are still on the trail of a solid contract (and, believe me, it’s gonna happen!  Would the Relic ever steer ya wrong?!?), they’re gettin’ a bit more exposure thanks to their work on the Unseen DVD I toldja about!  And their gigbook’s gettin’ filled!  I’ve gotta tell ya more about these guys (maybe even a good interview with ‘em for this site!), but, considerin’ it’s almost 5 AM over here, I reckon it’s time to hit the sack for right now.

So, until next time, remember:  Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music  … and I’ll see ya on the flip side, okay??
