Ya Ready? Then LET’S ROCK!!
Throughout the world at this hour, bands are tuning up, studio mixing boards are being adjusted, fans are buying tickets for concerts and radios are playing Top 40 from 1964 … or is it 1966 … or ‘67?
Contracts are being discussed for a four-man band out of Kent, England, who’s already starting to set the rock world on fire again. TV shows on both sides of the Great Pond are showcasing guitar bands (and, on occasion, piano) who break out the 4/4 beat again, and industry (and Arbitron) headlines show that more young people than ever are craving the sounds that made rock famous.
People, it’s inescapable: It’s time to ROCK again!!
To that end, The Rock Relic will soon be debuting a new, hard-copy rockzine called Let’s Rock! Its not only gonna bring the best of yesterday’s sounds to a new audience, but also the rebirth of the great beat that set the musical world on its ear and became the most popular and favored sound in the world!
The front page and lead article will feature The Fore, but it’ll also feature stars like Ron Ryan and The Fratellis, contests, little-known facts, and quizzes. While in the planning stage as I write this, the first issue should be off-the-presses and ready to dig into by September.
The plan is to pattern it after Lloyd Thaxton’s Tiger Beat magazine of the mid-Sixties (a sample is on your right — though it’s not my copy, which is a bit older).
SPEAKIN’ OF QUIZZES:
Can you figure out these number one songs in the UK during the ’60s? Now, the first word (in fact, the first title) is given for you, but can ya figure out the others?

Now … for the next part of the quiz: Who sang each song?
WHO SAID IT? In response to a reporter who was insistent that, in order to rebuild the world, you had to destroy it, a rocker replied, “You smash it - and I’ll build round it.” (Hint: it was 1968)
IN THE FORE-FRONT:
After a rather quiet April (during which they began rehearsing numbers for their new album), the lads are gearing up for a wild May! They’ve been booked solid throughout the month, and CD sales of Black & White are really jumping!
But they’ve also caught the ear of some serious A&Rs and (I’m not allowed to ’spill the beans’ yet) it wouldn’t surprise me if one of these major labels offered The Fore a fat, juicy contract by the time their May venues are completed!
And they now have one of the greatest songwriters in rock history sharing advice and friendship: the great Ron Ryan! I can just imagine what a collaboration between this musical legend and The Fore could bring!
Now, if you’re not a ForeFan yet, you’re missing out on history in the making! One listen to their music (you’ll find a link on their site), one view of their vids, one look at the mates, and you’ll definitely be one before leavin’ the page! And, if you live anywhere near one of their venues, you’ve gotta see ‘em in person to get the “Full Fore Effect”! Check ‘em out now at their website!
Okay … that’s it for this go-round. Until next time (oh … one more quiz: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll™ pop? Or will we ever know?), remember to keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music … and I’ll see ya on the flip side.
